Cuckoo for Gulu

So today is our 5th day here in Gulu, Uganda and we have seen a lot of fruit come from our obedience to the Lord. We are seeing people saved, healed, and even freed from depression. God is doing a lot of things here and I’m so thankful to be apart of His mission to see the people of Gulu encounter the Holy Spirit! Here are a couple testimonies from what I have seen.

On the third day, we were finishing up dinner when our leaders talked to us about possibly going to a nearby neighborhood to do outreach. During the day, nearly all the people are working or walking around so they felt that if we went after dinner, we could possibly talk to more people. So we hopped on some bodas and asked them to take us to Kobaro Pong. I love talking to the boda drivers because most of the time, they are seen as low class workers plus its a great opportunity to share with them the love of Christ. As we are going to Kobaro Pong, I find that Michael has heard the name of Jesus, but no one has ever told him his story. Luckily, his customer has quite the message to share with him. By the time we get to the neighborhood, I finish telling Michael about Jesus and ask him if he wants this new life. Excitedly, he says that he does want Jesus! Praise the Lord! I grabbed his contact and told him that we will meet later in the week to discuss more about Jesus. So we meet and we go over what the Bible says about God, creation, sin, and Jesus. He was so curious about many things and asked a lot of good questions. When we finished, I asked him if he believed what I told him and he said that yes he did! He receives Jesus in his life and he tells me that he wants to be baptized when I told him what it was! At that moment I was thinking how good God is and how He has just touched this man’s life in such a way that sparked this enthusiasm. Then, he asked me how long I was going to stay in town so that I can teach him how to share this with the people of Gulu! This nearly blew me away because this is the type of guy that I’m searching for: someone who can reproduce what has been given to him so that all of Gulu can hear the message of God!

Another awesome testimony is one night, the guys went to a brothel to talk to the men outside waiting to go into the building. At first, we weren’t finding anyone who wanted to listen but then out of nowhere, BAM, these guys just kept coming to seek us out! It was like we were a light in the darkness! One guy that Brandon was talking to, pulled some random stranger walking by and told him that he needed to hear his message! Wow! I began talking to Oceng Dennis who was standing doing nothing. As we talk, I mention Jesus and if he knew him. Dennis replies that he heard his name but no one ever told him the story of Jesus. I then share with him Creation to Christ and he begins to ask all these questions that showed genuine curiosity about what I was saying. After I answer his questions, he says that he wants to follow Jesus and that he wants to take me to his village so that I can share this message with his family! How neat is that?! What started out as a little discouraging turned into a huge harvest for the kingdom! We saw 4 people give their lives to Christ that night who want to share with other people! Praise the Lord! I could barely believe it was happening, but Jesus says that the harvest is PLENTIFUL! Before I left that night, I asked Dennis what he was doing at that time. He told me that he was watching the futbol match when something burned inside his chest telling him to go stand in that exact spot!! Talk about Divine Encounter! The Holy Spirit totally orchestrated for us to meet and for him to begin a new life in the kingdom!

I can’t help but think about how much God is using us to transform the town of Gulu. It’s so amazing that He would want to use weak and imperfect people to accomplish His purposes in Uganda. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to see and be apart of this amazing harvest. Thank you for sewing into this mission trip, whether it was through prayer or financial giving! Because you have sewn into this trip, you have an inheritance from everything that goes on in Gulu! May God bless you!

We still have one more week left until we start our journey back to the states and we are going hard! I will try to send one more blog while in Gulu, but if I’m not able to, I will post a final blog when I return. There is still time to see a lot happen in Gulu so please continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to touch the hearts of the Ugandans and for more divine encounters!

Peace,
Pablo
